I'm a minimalist when it comes to web design, which means that if something isn't necessary to successfully promote your business, products and/or service, it doesn't get included on the website.
You can think of a website as a hanging folder in a file cabinet, and the web pages are the papers or files inside the folder. The more you put into the folder the heavier and cumbersome it becomes and more difficult to pull out and place on the desk. The more you put on a web page the larger and slower it will be and the longer it'll take to load or display on someone's computer or mobile device.
There is no limit to the amount of information, images, videos, etc. you can put on a web page, but the more you put on it the larger the "file" size will be. This is important not only because the file size will determine how quick or slow the web page will load, but also how much of the visitor's data it will use.
Many people have limited data plans with their mobile phones and some with their home internet service. The larger the file size of a web page the more of the visitor's data will be used. This may or may not be an issue for the visitor, it just depends on how closely they keep track of their data usage. Nevertheless, you should always err on the side of caution and have a design that is considerate of all people, because you want them to come back again and again.
When I use an image on a web page I'll reduce the physical size and compress it so that it will have the smallest file size as possible without compromising the effectiveness and quality of the image. I write the website code myself so it's well written and non-redundant or excessive.
I do these things to make the website user and search engine friendly because both like fast websites. To further increase user friendliness I also make the website easy to use, easy to read and easy to navigate.
As a service I can also help write the content for your website. Writing about your business is much like standing on a stage and speaking to an audience. It's harder than you may think. Knowing what not to say, what to say and how to say it can be a real challenge. But whether you supply all the content for your website or if I help, I'll present that information in a way that is best suited for web consumption.
